All prospective adoptive families are thoroughly investigated. The investigation includes a Preliminary Screening Adoption Application and an extensive and comprehensive Adoptive Home Study.

Personal referral from someone we know and trust who knows the Prospective Adoptive Family personally
One on one interview with both Prospective Adoptive Parents present
Preliminary Screening Adoption Application which includes:

9.  Education (infant CPR, parenting an adopted child, normal developmental stages)

The Adoptive Home Study is part of the investigation of the adoptive family and is conducted by an Adoptive Home Study Specialist that meets the requirements set out by the Texas Standards for Child-placing. The Adoptive Home Study includes the following:
 
1.  Individual and Joint interviews with all family members living in the household present.
2.  Health and Safety Inspection of the Home (pool safety, secured firearms, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, stairway gates and cabinet safety locks, etc.
3.  Motivation to Adopt
4.  Marital Relationship
5.  Childhood History
6.  Financial Status and Ability to Support a Child
7.  Value, Feelings, and Practices with Regards to Discipline and Care of children
8.  Sensitivity to and Feelings About Birth Families, including Expectations about Ongoing Contact with Birth Families
9.  Attitude of the Extended Family Regarding Adoption
10.  Type of Child Preference
11.  Expectations of and Plans for Adoptive Child
12.  Recommendation as to the type of child or children the
